Warm Green Smoothie Recipe

A exciting and different way to detox using greens and herbs. I know, a warm green smoothie sounds weird, but your digestive system will love it! If you want to dive deeper into the energetics and types of herbs and foods good for Spring cleansing, head over to our new blog: Why should I do a Spring Cleanse?

Warm Green Smoothie Recipe

I bet you’re wondering about this one…..a warm smoothie?! It sounds ridiculous, but it’s actually quite the treat. This smoothie is meant to support your body’s detoxification processes. It’s fiber-rich, packed with fruit, veggies, and herbs that support your elimination organs….like turmeric, burdock root, and dandelion root.

Ingesting a warm smoothie is great for spring cleansing. Cold smoothies (especially during chillier times of the year) can be taxing on your body, which is doing a lot of work to keep your inner fire burning. Cold foods and drinks cool the whole body down, and create more work to maintain an optimal temperature.

This recipe is warming, moving, sweet, earthy, and just a tad bitter to get the digestive juices flowing. Follow the recipe below to see what it’s all about.

Ingredients:

2 cups spinach (destemmed)

2 kiwis (unpeeled, quartered)

1 green apple (unpeeled, quartered)

1 inch fresh ginger

½ inch fresh turmeric

2 Tbsp flax seeds

Juice from 1 orange (you could add in the whole orange if you are using a vitamix)

1 cup of dandelion & burdock in fusion (instructions below)

Bring 1 cup of water to a boil, infuse with 1 tsp of dandelion root + ½ tsp burdock root for 10 minutes. Make sure to cover while steeping. You can steep it longer if you want more bitterness.

Notes: a vitamix blender works best for this recipe, but if you do not have a vitamix, make sure all of your ingredients (aside from the hot infusion) are room temperature. You can also add 1 medjool date if you want this recipe to be more sweet/less bitter (although it’s only slightly bitter as is).

Directions:

  1. Boil your water and start your burdock + dandelion infusion. Set aside to steep while prepping other ingredients.
  2. Destem 2 cups of spinach and add it to your blending device
  3. Quarter your kiwis and apples. Add them in with the spinach.
  4. Grate ginger and turmeric and add in with the other ingredients
  5. Add in your flax seeds, orange, and the herbal infusion.
  6. Blend starting at a low speed, and slowly moving up until you bring it to the highest speed.
  7. Let the concoction blend on high speed for 10 minutes.
  8. Pour into a glass (or glasses) and enjoy

This technique creates a warm smoothie which will not disappoint. It’s especially great for the folks who love fresh smoothies, but can’t handle such a cold drink during chilly times of the year. No more brain freezes or chilly bodies with this cleansing recipe!
