    Making Your Own Lip Balms and Salves

    Spring is a great time to stock up on your salves and lip balms so you can use them throughout the summer. Heal those sun-cracked lips, soothe bee stings, cuts, burns and scrapes without the use of any petroleum or artificial preservatives. These will be great items to add to your first aid kits and backpacks. We will touch on different essential oils that can be used for not only their medicinal properties but also as natural preservatives. Adding a little glitter and color to lip balm recipes will also be discussed.

    Making your own Lotions and Creams

    Learn how to make your own lotions using two different methods.  Linda will discuss carrier oils, their absorption rate and their skin qualities. She will also provide a basic understanding of the formulation process along with a list of emulsifiers, anti-oxidants, and preservatives. When class is completed, students will be able to develop their own recipes. Please bring 2 sterilized pint sized jars to class to bring home your own lotion and cream.

    Natural Baby Care

    A baby’s skin is so sensitive, doesn’t it make sense to use only natural baby care products? In our Baby Care class we'll learn to make a diaper rash butt paste that is natural and doesn't sting baby’s little bottom. We will also make a baby powder from completely natural minerals, flours and starches.  Other simple baby care techniques will be discussed including what to use for shampoo and baby oil.  Each student will go home with a small jar of butt paste and baby powder.

    Basic Soap Making

    Learn the art of making your own homemade soap. Join Linda White as she discuses the benefits of natural vegetable oils and animal fats for your skin as well as how to safely handle lye. Learn how to personalize your soaps with specialty oils, botanicals, molds, natural preservatives, colorants and essential oils.     Lotion Bars and Body Butters

    Join Linda White to learn to make simple, moisturizing lotion bars. Go a little further with the concept and learn how to whip up the lotion bars into a fluffy body butter!  Students will go home with some of each product.  Making lip butters, salves and balms will also be discussed.

    The Medicinal Uses of Essential Oils

    Explore the basics of aromatherapy, the biology of flowers and the science of fragrance. Topics include:

    • How essential oils work–their absorption and effects on the glandular, respiratory, nervous and circulatory systems

    • How to use them safely and effectively

    • How to create a home pharmacy of important essential oils and how to use them to calm the mind and body and enhance meditation.

    • Learn about:
    * Sacred scents such as frankincense and palo santo
    * Floral relaxants such lavender and geranium
    * Medicinal florals such as helichrysum and chamomile
    * Antimicrobials such as tea tree
    * Respiratory/immune enhancing oils such as conifers and eucalyptus
    * Medicinal grasses such as lemongrass
    * Attars and exotic flower preparations such as rose and jasmine

    Participants will have the opportunity to sample and purchase Floracopeia essential oils.

    Mineral make-up is non-toxic and is a natural sunscreen. Now, doesn’t that make being pretty much more enjoyable? In our Natural Make-up class students will gain an understanding of why they should go ‘mineral’ along with learning how to formulate their own products.  Each student will learn to apply the makeup in a special a sequence to use each morning. Students will make, and bring home, three products in their own desired shade:   a mineral foundation, a mineral blush and a mineral eye shadow.

    Natural Perfumery

    Learn to combine your favorite essential oils to develop two personal scents that you love! Perfumes can be developed to smell great and also have aromatic benefits.  Some of the more popular essential oils and their benefits will be discussed. Three different processes will be studied and each student will make two types of perfume:  a solid perfume and either a spray or roll-on perfume.
