11Using Ayurveda to Achieve Balance & Wellness
Saturday, June 11th, 2011, 11 am-5 pm
Cost: $50
Ayurveda is an ancient Eastern Indian medical science of health and healing that involves diet, lifestyle, and herbal supplements. Ayurveda is gaining popularity in the West and there has been an increase in the number of ayurvedic "spas", as well as an increase in the availability of ayurvedic herbal supplements. Teacher and NAMA certified Ayurvedic practitioner Diana Lurie will introduce you to the major principles of Ayurveda including ayurvedic herbs, the use of spices as medicinals, and the relationship between body type and therapeutic treatment. Ayurveda differs from western medicine in its emphasis on a healthy lifestyle as a way to promote wellness and prevent disease, and we will explore the many ways in which we can incorporate Ayurveda into our every day lives. We will also focus on weight and stress management and how to use everyday spices for their medicinal properties.
Diana I. Lurie, Ph.D., is a Professor of Neuropharmacology in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy, at The University of Montana. She is a Neuroscientist and Ayurveda wellness practitioner.
