Summertime Skin Care
Ah, summer time! The sun is shining, our gardens are sprouting and the temperatures are getting high. Time to put on those shorts and swimsuits. Get ready for a dip in the river, a lounge in the hammock, or a picnic in the park. Our skin gets a lot of exposure over the summer months. Here are some helpful recipes to keep it looking and feeling its best.
Gentle Cleansing Grains
2 cups white clay
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup ground almonds
1/4 cup ground lavender flowers
40 drops lavender essential oil
20 drops geranium essential oil
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Store in a tight glass jar. To use, take a handful and moisten with some warm water or lavender or rose hydrosol. Massage in small gentle circles over the face, neck or even the entire body!
Fruity Mask
2 tablespoons fresh fleshy fruit (such as apricot, peach or pear)
1 Tablespoon fresh avocado
3 teaspoons plain yogurt
1 teaspoon honey
2 drops Roman Chamomile essential oil
Apply to face and neck for 15 – 20 minutes and then rinse – so refreshing!
Love Your Lips Balm
3/4 cup almond oil
1/4 cup jojoba oil
1/4 cup beeswax
1 teaspoon honey
30 drops peppermint essential oil (or essential oil of your choice)
Melt the beeswax in a double boiler over medium low heat. Add almond oil, jojoba oil and honey and heat until the mixture is liquid again. Take a spoonful and pour it on a cold plate to test it for consistency. Add a little more beeswax if it is too soft, or more almond oil if it is too hard. Mix in the essential oil. Pour into smaller containers to cool.
