Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus

For both prevention and treatment of the common cold and respiratory bugs that are going around, our favorite essential oil this time of year is the one and only Eucalyptus. This powerful anti-viral oil is excellent at keeping illness away and is helpful in treating congestion and upper respiratory tract infections. Here are a few ways we recommend getting the most from this spectacular essential oil:

• Inhale:

This is the way we most commonly suggest getting quick relief from sinus congestion. You may have seen this method in action in the shop, as it's our favorite way to prevent and treat the common cold. Simply place a single drop of essential oil on the tip of a tissue and pop it up one nostril. Take several deep inhalations through this nostril while plugging the other side. Next switch sides and repeat to clear your head and open your nasal passages.

• Steam:

To do a facial/sinus steam, bring a pot of water to a boil. Remove from heat. Pour water into a large bowl and place 2-3 drops of Eucalyptus oil in the steaming water. Drape a towel over your head and breath deeply. Your sinuses will thank you as will your skin (a facial steam is a great pre-treatment for your favorite mask)!

• Soak or Shower!

Rub a drop or two of Eucalyptus oil onto the bottoms of your feet for its strong anti-viral and decongesting action or add a few drops to the bath. The skin on the bottoms of the feet easily absorbs essential oils, transporting them quickly into the bloodstream & the bath does the same. May also be combined with your favorite lotion or massage oil. For children under the age of one year old and for pregnant women we suggest using Eucalyptus radiata, healthy adults can use Eucalyptus globulus essential oil
