Venezuelan Medicinal Plants: A Slideshow
Join presenter Sarah Russo, a student at The Evergreen State College studying social justice, environmental studies, and medicinal plants. Sarah will give a picture slideshow documenting the time she spent in Venezuela through her course Venezuela: Building Economic and Social Justice at The Evergreen State College. Sarah will discuss Venezuelan's base knowledge of plant medicine and give an overview of the plants from her guidebook, which she created in English and Spanish. Sarah will also discuss the ability to study natural medicine through experience-based learning and to share about how to take a self-sufficient approach to your health.

Join us for the fourth year of our annual in-depth herbal studies program. Make a deeper connection to the earth. Discover the healing properties of medicinal plants - a special and unique part of our world. Come on a journey with us and experience an intimate connection with healing herbs that are native to the Northern Rocky Mountains.
We will study:
- Medicinal plants easily grown in our northern climate as well as some special exotics.
- Learn how to grow herbs and how essential oils are made.
- Explore using herbs for different body systems.
- Learn the art and science of medicine making.
- Discover how to respectfully harvest wild plants.

Tea Tasting 101
In this tasty tea class, we will join Brian Watrous of Missoula¹s Bitter Root Acupuncture & Herbarium. Brian is trained in the Chinese gong-fu style of tea service and will be teaching the differences between white, green, oolong, pu-erh and black teas. We will discuss specific health benefits of each and how to know the difference by taste and sight. 6 - 10 teas will be sampled. Please bring your own small tea cup to class.

Naturopathic Information About Cancer
Dr. Lane will discuss how and why cancers occur, from a naturopathic, physiological point of view. Environmental, nutritional, and stress factors will be described. Caspian will talk about what you can expect from a Doula assisted pregnancy and childbirth, as well as options for Doctors and Midwives in our area. Type II Diabetes
Sometimes called “adult onset diabetes”, type II diabetes was first recognized in the late 1950’s and is now said to be in epidemic proportions in our nation. Practitioners of naturopathic medicine believe that both the cause and treatment of diabetes in general is largely misunderstood by much of the healthcare community. Dr. Nesbit will present information about diabetes mellitus type II: its cause, complications and treatment options. Ian Nesbit received his Doctorate in Naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University in 1994. He completed two post doctorate residencies in physical medicine and cardiology. He was primary professor of cardiology at Bastyr University for three years and lectures internationally on emergency medicine and public health. Dr. Nesbit served in the Air Force Reserve and moved from Billings to Missoula after returning from Baghdad in 2003.
