Big Changes for Meadowsweet

As some of you may know, this summer is the deadline for small herb companies to comply with the FDA regulations for Good Manufacturing Procedures. We believe that the public should have access to safe herbs, manufactured in a reliable way. Meadowsweet Herbs has provided this service to our customers in an exceptional manner for the last fourteen years. We have come to the conclusion, however, that the new FDA regulations would compromise our standards and our core beliefs about manufacturing herbal medicine. The guidelines are also prohibitively costly for a small business such as ours to comply with.

This summer and fall, we will be phasing out the manufacture of the herbal extract portion of our business. Although we feel a great loss, we have evaluated our conscience and feel this is the right avenue for us.  

We will continue to sell our extracts until they are gone and we encourage you to get larger sizes of the Meadowsweet extracts that you use regularly. We sell as large as 32 ounce bottles (remember our bulk price discounts!) and this is a good time to stock up, as once they are gone, they´re gone. You can come into the store, order on line, mail order, or buy from many of our retail outlets around the northwest.

The good news is that this decision will bring about several exciting transformations for Meadowsweet Herbs. We are in the process of re-envisioning ourselves and our place in the community, both locally and as manufacturers and lovers of herbs. We hope to continue our relationship with you in a new way. Our retail store will continue to serve the Missoula area. We will still carry a large inventory of herbal extracts, as well as some new supplements, Ayurvedic herbs, and medicine making supplies.

We are excited to expand our offerings of both 2-hour classes and long-term herbal education programs and hope to offer CEU´s for nurses for our Herbal Foundations program by summer 2011. We are also very interested in continuing our herbal clinic and maintaining an herbal apothecary of handcrafted liquid herbal extracts for individual consultations. If you have other ideas about how Meadowsweet could best serve you, please let us know!

We will also manufacture a new and improved line of Meadowsweet Herbs salves, oils, lip balms, sitz baths, and other herbal products. Look for our expanded body care line, both at our store as well as other retail outlets soon!

We thank you, deeply, for being such amazing customers and for your support of Meadowsweet Herbs. It has been a joy! We look forward to exploring a new chapter of Meadowsweet Herbs with our many friends and customers.
