Summertime 1st Aid Essential Oils

Summertime is often a time of increased activity, outdoor fun, and travel. Whatever your plans this summer, a few essential oils can ease many small mishaps along the way. Essential oils work great for small cuts, burns, bruises, headaches, insect bites, and stress. Here are our top five essential oils for an aromatherapy first aid kit to take with you on your adventures, whether they are at home or out in the wide world. Note: essential oils are for external use only.
Lavender:
Insomnia
- 3 – 6 drops on you pillow before bed at night
- 8 – 10 drops in the bath before bed
Stress
- 3 drops in a tissue. Breath deeply through the nose several times.
Congestion
- 3 drops in a tissue. Breath deeply through the nose several times.
- Massage upper chest and back with 5 drops of lavender in 1 ounce of carrier oil
Headaches
- Apply 1 drop to temples and back of neck
Cuts, scrapes, insect bites, burns
- Apply 1 drop to site
Tea Tree
Cuts, scrapes, insect bites, burns
- Apply 1 drop to site
Small infected areas
- Apply 1 drop to site
Colds and Flu
- 3 drops in a tissue. Breath deeply through the nose several times.
- Massage upper chest and back with 5 drops tea tree in 1 ounce of carrier oil
Blisters
- Apply 1 drop and cover with a bandage
Blemishes
- Apply 1 drop to site
Eucalyptus (globules or radiata)
Colds and Flu
- 3 drops in a tissue. Breath deeply through the nose several times.
- Massage upper chest and back with 5 drops tea tree in 1 ounce of carrier oil
Air purification
- Diffuse into a room
Muscle aches or strains
- Massage area with 5 drops eucalyptus in 1 ounce of carrier oil
Arthritis
- Massage area with 5 drops eucalyptus in 1 ounce of carrier oil
Insect bites or stings
- Apply 1 drop to site
Mental fatigue or poor concentration
- 3 drops in a tissue. Breath deeply through the nose several times.
Peppermint
Nausea and motion sickness
- 3 drops in a tissue. Breath deeply through the nose several times
Headaches
- Apply 1 drop to temples and back of neck. Do not use peppermint on sensitive skin or with children under 2 years old.
Rose Geranium
Minor cuts to stop bleeding
- Allow the cut to bleed briefly and then put 1 drop on the wound
Stress or emotional swings
- Diffuse into the air
- 3 drops in a tissue. Breath deeply through the nose several times
- 8 – 10 drops in the bath
- Massage with 5 drops Rose Geranium in 1 ounce of carrier oil
