Exotic Eau de Cologne Recipe
Posted: October 4th, 2011
An uplifting citrus blend, Eau de Cologne or simply “Cologne” is a perfume that originated from Cologne, Germany. Now a generic term for scented formulations in typical concentration of 2-5% essential oils, the original Eau de Cologne is a citrus perfume launched in 1709 by Giovanni Maria Farina (1685–1766), an Italian perfume maker from Santa Maria Maggiore, Italy. In 1708, Farina wrote to his brother Jean Baptiste: “I have found a fragrance that reminds me of an Italian spring morning, of mountain daffodils and orange blossoms after the rain”. But don’t take our word for it-try it for yourself:
- 10 drops Bergamot
- 2 drops Rosemary
- 10 drops Lemon
- 20 drops Orange
- 2 drops Neroli
- 2.5 ounces 100 proof vodka
- 2 tablespoons spring water
*use only 100 percent pure, therapeutic grade essential oils
Add essential oils to vodka while stirring gently until completely dispersed. Let sit for 48 hours, then add water while stirring slowly until completely mixed. Let stand another 48 hours minimum, up to six weeks. If too strong, dilute with spring water. Pour through a paper coffee filter and bottle!
