A Time to Plant: Some Helpful Tips on Gardening
Posted: May 23rd, 2011
Herbs are often easier to grow than vegetables because they generally require less water and fertilizer. Annuals (plants that have a one year life cycle) are usually easier to germinate than perennials. Some easy to grow annuals include sweet basil, borage, calendula, California poppy, German chamomile, feverfew, and holy basil. Perennials (plants that come back year after year) are easy to maintain once established. Many perennials have a special germinating technique. They need to be stratified by mimicking nature’s process of freezing and thawing. These herbs include echinacea, pleurisy and lavender. To stratify seeds, put them in moist sand in the refrigerator for at least 30 days before planting. Come in to see our large selection of medicinal herb seeds to choose from.
